Literacy & Numeracy Catch Up Funding
The literacy and numeracy catch-up premium gives schools additional funding to support Year 7 pupils who did not achieve at least level 4 in reading and/or maths at the end of key stage 2 (KS2).
All state-funded schools with year 7 pupils receive this funding, including special schools.
At Highfield School, we assess the individual literacy and numeracy needs of each of the pupils who come to Highfield in Year 7. The catch-up premium allocated for 2014/15 is £10,000 and we have used the funding as follows:
To provide all Year 7 students with access to the Read Write Inc. Phonics which combine into a complete literacy programme rooted in the new national curriculum. The programmes are tailored to meet the needs of the individual students and support them to make progress in phonics, reading, writing and spelling skills.
To provide all Year 7 students with access at home and school to Dynamo Maths for the development of Numeracy Skills. Dynamo Maths is a robust and reliable Assessment and Intervention that tracks progress and signposts to an intervention.
