Out of School Learning
Children attending Highfield engage in a highly structured programme of
personal and social development activities which take place during break
times and lunch times. Children
are supported to develop the skills required to be successful in the
Cafeteria system we operate at lunch time. The
children do not simply play at break time.
They are all engaged in a wide range of indoor and outdoor activities
designed to support their personal and social development. In
2010/11 we will continue to develop our extensive programme of after school
activities
which are
delivered by our teaching and non-teaching staff. These include Skiing,
Interactive Games, Sewing, Textiles, ICT, Trains, Archery,Swimming, Dance,
Music, Art, Yoga, Newspaper Club, Basketball, Interactive Board Games and
Video Club. In
2009/10 we have taken over 40 children away from home on a variety of
residential visits to both the
Lake District
and North and South Yorkshire.
These have proved to be both very successful and very popular.
In the summer holidays we deliver a Summer Holiday Activity
Programme. This takes place in
late July and features five full days of exciting activities for the
children, based in school but also around the Wakefield District.
