About Us
Highfield School is a high quality Foundation Special School designated for children in the 11-16 year old age group. We currently have 158 students on roll. Since 2008 we have been providing Post 16 Provision for students with complex needs in partnership with Ossett Academy Sixth Form College. We provide a safe, highly structured yet stimulating and exciting learning environment.
Our students come from across the whole of the Wakefield MDC area and some attend from other neighbouring Authorities. We hold the highest expectations for our students who all make excellent progress in their learning. In Summer 2011 all our school leavers moved on to further education placements.
Highfield occupies a superb green field site in the
village of Gawthorpe. Our
building was completely refurbished in 1999 and we enjoy an excellent
standard of accommodation. We
have specialist facilities for ICT, Living Skills, Music and Drama, Art,
Science and a Sports Hall. Our
teaching areas have been specially designed to best meet the complex needs
of our students. We also benefit
from very extensive outdoor areas which include inclusive playgrounds,
playing fields, growing areas and a woodland walk.
